In August 2012, a middle-aged couple from Southern California will walk the 84-mile path along Hadrian's wall in Northern England to raise awareness about the erosion of women’s rights in the U.S. and to raise funds for Planned Parenthood.
Why are they doing this?
If you’ve watched the introductory video opposite, thank you! You already know a little bit about us. Certainly you know that our decision to walk for Planned Parenthood was spurred by: (1) the Komen Foundation’s announcement that it would defund Planned Parenthood and (2) the proposed Blunt Amendment, cosponsored by a gaggle of 23 senators.
Komen, of course, has reinstated Planned Parenthood’s funding, and the Blunt Amendment was (narrowly) defeated in the senate, but that's neither the beginning nor the end of this story. Women’s rights have been eroding for decades, and the assaults have intensified over the last 15 years. In fact, more than 700 anti-choice measures have been enacted in the U.S. just since 1995.
And now, increasingly, women’s access to routine healthcare is also under attack, which is why we want to help Planned Parenthood as they continue providing vital healthcare services in our communities.

We hope too that you’ll explore this site to learn more about Hadrian’s Wall and about the path we’ll be walking in August. You can follow our preparations and progress on our blog. We’ve got a lot of hard training to do. Thanks for joining us!
