Who Are These People?

James and I are a married pair of AARP-eligible instructional designers, living in Southern California with our trusty cat, Scheherazade.

In a former life, I worked for a social services agency (James is a former teacher). In that role, I encountered a lot of people who were struggling just to put food on the table, people for whom medical care was often out of the question. And many lived in households with two or more jobs.

Now, politicians and their owners are stepping up efforts to reduce or eliminate even more services for people already at risk.

And that's a lot of people because even those who think they aren't at risk might well be. For example, if you're a woman living in Arizona and you get your health insurance through your workplace, beware. If your employer objects to contraceptives--yes, your employer--your health plan won't cover your prescription, even if you pay the premiums yourself.
